SOUND
Toy Box – Lene Lovich (Cherry Red, 2023)
A four CD box set that collects Lene’s entire output on the label Stiff. It includes the 3 albums and both the UK and US versions of of her album Stateless, along with b-sides, non-album singles, mixes, live tracks and spoken word. The CD booklet is largely Lene’s own words about her music. It’s great.
Stereo For The Swinging Season (RCA – Year unknown)
Someone posted this 3-dsic box set in the Exotica…and other Cool, Unusual Music Facebook group. If I ever came across a copy I’d buy it in a nanosecond, I mean, look at the cover art. I have some of the music in my digital collection, so a Musicbee playlist has been made, although the Roger Miller side of Disc 3 I can do without.
Library Music
I’ve been listening to a lot of 60s and 70s library/production music this week. Some new favourites have emerged – Lee Mason, Brian Bennett, David Sarkys and just about anything on the Bruton Music imprint.
FILM/TV
Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities (Netflix, 2022)
Horror anthology. I’m 3 episodes in, the quality varies, but when it hits, like it does in episode 3 (The Autopsy) it really hits.
The FBI (Tubi 1965-1974)
A Quinn Martin Production with crimes and guest stars of the week, right up my alley. It stars Efrem Zimbalist Jr. who has the best name on TV.
The New Avengers (1976-77)
Steed, Purdey, Gambit fight all manner of villains with a heavy dose of middle 1970s interiors and fashions. Fantastic.
I also re-watched Lypsinka – Toxic Femininity before it dissolves into the ether.

Hit Girls: Women of Punk in the USA 1975-1983 – Jen B. Larson (Feral House, 2023)
My library has been brilliant at purchasing books I request, this was one of them from my probably 80% success rate. It’s an overview of Punk (read that also New Wave ) bands in America including or fully consisting of women.
